Coming to Los Angeles

Let me be honest here, I always thought I would have a “Coming to America” moment (like Eddie Murphy’s character did) when I set foot in America hehehe!. It goes without saying that this is one of my best movies as it epitomises the perception most non-Americans have towards America. When I was young, a lot of people wanted to go to America; the land of milk and honey; the land where dreams come true. So for a long time it was on my bucket list. My city of choice for this trip was Los Angeles and I will be sharing with you some of the things that I did while I was there.

When you think about Los Angeles, am sure the first thoughts that pop into your mind are celebrities, movie stars, paparazzi, the glitz and glamour that surrounds these people. This is actually the reality of Los Angeles and as you walk around, you are constantly reminded of the fact that you are in the entertainment capital of the world.

I was in L.A for 3 days and I got to do 4 activities;

  • Hollywood Walk of Fame

Many movies have popularised the walk of fame that extends from east hollywood to west hollywood. The hollywood boulevard has immortalised some of the entertainment heavy weights through the five pointed terrazzo and brass stars.

I got the chance to see some of the stars in the boulevard.

  • Universal Studios

In my opinion, my favourite place to visit in Los Angeles; it is such an amazing place full of awesome movie magic and movie history that extends more than 50 years of studio tours and theme parks magic within it boundaries.

I got the chance to explore some of the attractions including the studio tour, fast and furious – supercharged, WaterWorld, King Kong 360 3-D and Jurassic Park Ride. A super amazing tour to take but quite pricey. If you plan on doing this tour make sure that you exhaust all the options and attractions within the theme park so as to maximise the amount paid. Another tip is to wake up pretty early for a chance to see all the attractions. Here’s a link to Universal Studios Hollywood.

  • Rodeo Drive

Well my obsession with this street started when I first watched Pretty Woman. I can honestly confess that I have watched this movies too many times to admit. I hit the street and saw some of the most prestigious high fashion, luxury brands stores and The Beverly Hills Wilshire Hotel where Richard Gere and Julia Roberts made scenes of the movie.

  • Hollywood Homes

Movie star homes are also quite a big attraction, I got to see some of the most expensive Hollywood Homes including the Playboy Mansion, Katy Perry’s house, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Beyonce and Jay Z, Charlize Theron, Simon Cowell’s and the list is endless really.

I used the Starline Tours for the Hollywood Homes tour, you can find their stand and sales representatives just outside the Chinese Theatre.

I hope this article shed some light on the activities that you can take part in while in L.A. I absolutely loved my stay and loved the American experience and the Americans I had the opportunity of meeting and engaging with. I am looking forward to visiting America one day in the future when opportunity presents itself.
